Kids and Cold Weather: Choosing Jackets for Growing Children

Categories:

Children lose heat quickly and they do not always tell you they are cold. A well-chosen jacket keeps them comfortable and means you can enjoy the outdoors together.

Look for a warm but flexible design that lets them run, climb and play. Easy zips, secure cuffs and a hood that stays put are more useful than complicated features.

Size matters, but resist buying a coat that is far too large. Sleeves that hang over the hands and hems that trip a child cause problems. Choose a fit with a little growing room and use layers underneath for fine-tuning.

Check often for damp clothing after play. Wet layers chill quickly, and changing into dry ones is the simplest way to keep children warm and happy.
